Jada Gray

Artist Statement

Being a young girl I was always around older relatives that wanted me to be  only a doctor, only paying attention to my good grades and not the creativity I had in my mind. From a young age,my older relatives pushed me in  a direction of a career choice that felt was superior to art. They worried about my grades and not the creativity that I had in my mind. My dad was a painter and bass player so most of my dedication came from him,and my sister writing poems and being an artist.  I was exposed to much art but never it never went any further than that. I would watch very colorful shows and wake up late nights on the weekend and summer to go in my sisters room and draw with her. I remember seeing her drawings or sketches laying around and trying to use them as references to draw something similar.I was interested in knowing the story behind a picture and even wanted to have been the person that took a certain picture.

I just recently came in contact and felt a connection with my creative artistic side. am crafting, doing shoots for class, and even just looking at pictures and drawing somethings similar to them.

My personal theme  is wings. The reason this sticks out to me is because wings and costumes are out season meaning i was gonna have to order it online or make it.I took the option of making it.Yes it was a difficulty to find all the materials and to overall make it but it worked. The shoot was with my mother which is not the first for that particularly but the first to be successful with her being a model. The theme was made more majestic and emotional  than I thought. I really choose such a theme because the connotation or symbolism of a bird to some is “freedom”,”liberty”,”prosperity”,and “serenity”. My style is similar especially being a teen I love to see urban photography and people in open spaces living life and having. The ideas behind most of my photo themes (if i have an option to create one)is what I feel or what I want to feel.

I love to connection with nature and humanity in a single photo most of my work include much of an idea/act,emotions,and even nature and humanity or even a mixture. I have done many shoots that were unsuccessful but one thing is that all of them had a proper idea and made up story behind them. Some things that I think of and value in photography is art, contrast, balance, and a story. I can be a very deep person so I might get frustrated trying to portray the image and overall mess up out of sheer frustration, ut one thing I love and admire about the message and the compositions used is that is portrayed through art most importantly through photography. I love the many categories of art and they all play a part in my work and in my life.
